How to be a Hospice Patient
Your life is about to change….but you knew that, didn’t you? You have made it this far these many years due to your ability to adapt to change.
There was a time when the rotary dial phone was a new thing….and then came the touch tone, the car phone, and finally (for now) the cell phone.
You adjusted through each change. The same can be said about so many things you have lived through over the decades.
And now, here you are facing your doctor’s prognosis that your end of life is up ahead. How will you need to adapt this time?
First, you will need to change your expectations – of yourself and of life. You cannot do what you used to do and, as time goes on, that may likely diminish.
Second, you may need to change your attitude – although the exact details at this time are unsure, the final reality is inevitable. Joseph Conrad wrote, “Facing it, always facing it, that’s the way to get through. Face it.”
Lastly, you may need to change your behaviors. You may require medications or treatments that “cramp your style” as you have known it these years.
One good thing is that with proper care and family or friends to help, you will adjust and continue to enjoy life as best you are able. You can do it; you’ve done it before.
