10 Things Your Hospice Nurse Should Do

It’s important to know what to expect from medical staff, especially when you’re faced with something as delicate as the hospice journey. Today we share 10 things your hospice nurse should do in the hopes of being more aware and also getting your needs met whether for yourself personally or for your loved one.

  1. Get to know the patient and family and what their goals are.

  2. Assess symptoms.

  3. Provide expert symptom management.

  4. Evaluate medications and educate patient/family on use side effects and how to administer.

  5. Develop a plan of care that meets patient and family needs.

  6. Educate on cause of symptom and what to do to manage .

  7. Educate on disease process.

  8. Anticipatory guidance as patient declines.

  9. Educate families on how to care for their loved one.

  10. Provide respectful compassionate care.

We hope this list is helpful for you and should you have any further questions about the hospice journey please do not hesitate to reach out to RC Hospice Care at 916-858-1440. We are proud to serve the Greater Sacramento region.
